Backwoods Music Studio provides musical instruction for beginning, intermediate, and advanced Guitar and Bass students ages 10 and older. Our teaching method utilizes a combination of tactics that includes practical techniques, ear training, popular songs and music theory to achieve the student performance goals. Our main motivation is to give our students a life-long love of playing the guitar.

I’ve been playing rock, jazz, and classical guitar and bass for the last 30 years, and have a degree in Music Education. I have extensive performing experience with both student, professional, and amateur groups, have played almost every musical style, and actively perform in the North Raleigh area. Students are encouraged to find music and styles they’d like to explore, and the lessons are adapted to apply foundation techniques to their real world playing opportunities. Students are also shown tactics for improving their ear training with an appreciation of several different and varied musical genres.

Wake Schools Interview - Mr. Rob was recently interiviewed by a current advanced student for the WCPSS website/blog "Playing Guitar in Raleigh".

Backwoods at ALLSTATE - A young bass student just made the N.C. Jr. Allstate Orchestra playing the Upright Bass. He is also playing electric bass with his middle school Jazz Band here in Raleigh.
